Green Things
My first houseplant was a chubby little aloe I bought at Frank’s Nursery during my freshman year of college. I named her—appropriately—Chubby. All these years later, her babies still thrive in sunny corners of my home and the homes of friends and family. Chubby herself was a strong, thriving mama until recently (I’m still in denial and doing my best to bring her back). That tiny plant sparked something in me, and I've been in love with plants ever since.
Over time, they’ve become more than just greenery. They’re my grounding ritual, my home décor, and let’s be honest, my leafy green babies. I can’t walk into a garden center or a bookstore without spending money I didn’t intend to pay. (It’s a known issue. I’m working on it.)
One of my most cherished plants is a propagation from my great-grandmother’s snake plant. Like many of the beautiful objects in my home, it has been passed down through generations. These plants carry stories, comfort, and life.
Creating this course was a joy. Plants have helped me stay rooted through seasons of change—through grief, healing, and everyday life. They’ve reminded me to slow down, to pay attention, and to keep growing. Tending to them has always been a way to tend to myself. There’s nothing quite like the quiet joy of seeing a plant you’ve cared for thrive. We chat, sip coffee together, and even vent when the New England days are cold and dreary for months at a time.
This guide isn’t just here to teach you how to care for houseplants—it’s here to help you connect with them. Because when you start to see what your plants need, you might begin to notice what you need, too.
I hope this course inspires confidence, curiosity, and connection—not only with your plants but also with the space you’re growing into.
With love and green thumbs,
