How the “We Do Not Care” Club Became a Movement
There’s a new mantra echoing through the feeds of millions of women, and it’s loud, proud, and messy: We do not care.
It started as a phrase. A cheeky, slightly sarcastic tagline by @justbeingmelani. But it landed like gospel for women, especially those of us (well) over forty, who’ve spent the better part of our lives caring about everyone else’s expectations.
We do not care if the laundry has been in the dryer so long it’s now part of the appliance.
We do not care if our hair is frizzy, gray, or styled in what could be classified as “feral bun chic.”
We do not care if our decades old tee slipped low enough to reveal our bra, our shoulder, and a solid third of our left boob. We’re not here for modesty. We’re here for comfort and survival.
This isn’t laziness. This is liberation.
The women's movement has reached a new frontier: raw, hilarious, unfiltered truth. Everywhere you scroll, you’ll find her: @momsbehaving badly, @therealslimsherri, @bigtimeadultihng, to the never ending supply of hilarious memes.
The get a boyfriend in every country so you have a place to stay while you travel the world.
The mom ranting about the absurdity of her husband while unloading the dishwasher at 10 p.m.
The meme queen whose sarcastic posts get sent daily to our besties like sacred scripture.
It’s not a midlife crisis. It’s a midlife awakening.
This isn’t about buying a Corvette or flirting with the guy in the checkout line..
This is a phoenix rising from the ashes, strength-in-numbers, “I see you, I hear you, I feel you” reckoning.
Social media, for all its flaws, has given women a lifeline. A place to show up, messy, tired, hormonal, alive, and not feel alone. We've discovered that our struggles are shared, our joys are understood, and our voices, finally, are heard.
This is more than a trend. It’s a quiet revolution. And the best part?
We’re doing it together.
So here’s to the women who do not care (about the bullsh!t), but deeply care about each other.
We’re not going backward. We’re growing. Rising. Laughing. And lifting each other up, one reel, one rant, one unfiltered truth at a time.
